چکیده

We study stripe formation in two-dimensional systems under directional quenching a phase-diffusion approximation including nonadiabatic boundary effects. find through simple traveling waves for all angles relative to the line using an analytic continuation procedure. also present comprehensive analytical asymptotic formulas limiting cases of small and large as well rates. Of particular interest is regime angle slow rate which described by glide motion dislocation along line. A delocalization bifurcation this leads sharp decrease strain created growth process at angles. complement our results with numerical reliant on boundary-integral formulation. compare numerically quenched anisotropic Swift-- Hohenberg equation.

Coarsening in potential and nonpotential models of oblique stripe patterns.

We study the coarsening of two-dimensional oblique stripe patterns by numerically solving potential and nonpotential anisotropic Swift-Hohenberg equations. Close to onset, all models exhibit isotropic coarsening with a single characteristic length scale growing in time as t1/2. Further from onset, the characteristic lengths along the preferred directions x and ŷ grow with different exponents, c...

Topological defects and misfit strain in magnetic stripe domains of lateral multilayers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.

Stripe domains are studied in perpendicular magnetic anisotropy films nanostructured with a periodic thickness modulation that induces the lateral modulation of both stripe periods and in-plane magnetization. The resulting system is the 2D equivalent of a strained superlattice with properties controlled by interfacial misfit strain within the magnetic stripe structure and shape anisotropy. This...

Oblique advancement flap for defects of the lateral nasal supratip.

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of nasal alar defects is difficult because of the complex anatomy of the region. A frequent challenge in this area is repair of small cutaneous defects involving the lateral nasal supratip and the superior alar groove. OBSERVATIONS An oblique advancement flap that uses laxity from the nasal sidewall is described. Its benefits and limitations are compared with those o...

Strain solitons and topological defects in bilayer graphene.

Bilayer graphene has been a subject of intense study in recent years. The interlayer registry between the layers can have dramatic effects on the electronic properties: for example, in the presence of a perpendicular electric field, a band gap appears in the electronic spectrum of so-called Bernal-stacked graphene [Oostinga JB, et al. (2007) Nature Materials 7:151-157]. This band gap is intimat...
